Hamilton is located 6 miles west of the county seat at Leesburg. Richard Tavenner and his wife Ann Hatcher built and estate in the late 1700s, known at Harmony. Thereafter the surrounding area was known at Harmony, then Charles Bennett Hamilton founded a store there. After the founding of the store Harmony became known as Hamilton Store, till 1835, when a post office was first built there and the town’s name was recorded as Hamilton.
